Part I : General – Regions – Communities A – Ł

An update of the 2004 edition which was compiled and edited by Hanna Volovici, Witold Medykowski, Hadassah Assouline and Benyamin Lukin. Update prepared by Benyamin Lukin and Olga Shraberman for the Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People (CAHJP) 2012

This guide is arranged geographically, beginning with material relating to the Jews of Poland as a whole, followed by regional entries and then by individual entries for each community, in alphabetical order. They have many entries here for towns that were once in Galicia. Some of their holdings have been digitized and indexed by Gesher Galicia, but many are still on microfilm. Their staff is not equipped to do research on your behalf (you can do research at the archive if you visit Israel or hire someone there,) but as part of the Galician Archival Records Project we work with our members to obtain copies of documents and index them. A full description of the Guides contents is on the first pages.  (You can keyword search by clicking the magnifying glass icon on the upper left side.  This if Part 1, letters A – Ł. For Part II of the Guide for letters M-Z click here.) The CAHJP website is here: https://cahjp.huji.ac.il/.
