... of the Jewish settlement is likewise unknown. It must be assumed that during the reign of Casimir the Great, in the 14th century, when Jews found refuge in Poland from persecution in Western Europe, they fanned out in its fertile plains and settled along the shores of the Vistula. It is claimed that the cemetery contained monuments (uprooted by the Nazis during their occupation of the town) that bore names of Jews who died some 400-500 years ago. The accuracy of this claim was not established and actual names of deceased arc not available. What is known for certain is that a scries of major fires took place in the 90's of last century. The most damaging one was that in 1898, which caused the central part of town to burn down. The townhall went up in flames and with it all documents that ...

May this book serve as a memorial to the Jewish people and to the community of Brzezany, which fell victim to forces of darkness of Nazi Germany. May this book also serve as an eternal memory to the coming generation - a light to our youth which is renewing our existence as a free people in our home-land, and a warning to those of our people dispersed in the diaspora, who have not yet drawn the obvious conclusion from our tragic past. ... to collect their share from them. I did collect from Herman Zuch and Abe Fischer their share when they arrived in Israel. Several days later, we met in Haifa with a large group of Boibcrkcr who resided in that city. From them I learned that they planned to organize themselves into a Boibcrkcr Society to help Boibcrker immigrants who were coming to settle in Israel, and would need assistance. Thats how the Boibcrkcr Free Loan Society was organized in Israel. When we revisited Israel two years later, we learned that the old time Boibcrkcr had already organized the Fund with their own meager few pounds. When the culture house which Abraham Fischer build in Raanana was officially opened, about 100 Boibcrkcr landslcit from all over Israel came to the opening and there we learned that ...

Eliahu Burshtcin was the first to visit Boibcrke and hold mass meetings to organize such Free Loan Societies. In 1849 a Jew from Erctz Israel, by the name of Israel Abramowitch. came to Boibcrke to collect money for the Jewish settlements in Eretz Israel. Since several other such emissaries had ... such collections. They issued a order that each town was to appoint a promin-cnt to supervise the fund. In Boiberkc the man ao chosen was David Lcitcr. In all of Eastern Galicia Jews were permitted to collect only 3000 Florins annually or SI.200. In 1859 the Austrian authorities permitted Jews to live in villages and to buy farm land, and many Jews settled in the villages around ...
