About Gesher Galicia

Gesher Galicia is a non-profit organization carrying out Jewish genealogical and historical research on Galicia, formerly a province of Austria-Hungary and today divided between southeastern Poland and western Ukraine. Our research work involves the acquisition and indexing of a range of archival records, prime among which are vital records and census books. Acquiring and reproducing cadastral maps is another important focus. We also work on landowner records, Holocaust-period documents, and school, voter, and tax records. While our main aim is researching Jewish roots in Galicia, our databases of community records contain names from all ethnic and religious groups that once lived in the region.

You can search our free All Galicia DatabaseMap Room, and Archival Inventories, and learn about our member benefits for genealogists and researchers, starting at $36/year. You can also join online.

If you have any questions about Gesher Galicia, you can write to info@geshergalicia.org and your communication will be directed to the right person.

The research work includes the indexing of archival vital records and census books, Holocaust-period records, Josephine and Franciscan cadastral surveys, lists of Jewish taxpayers, and records of Galician medical students and doctors - all added to our searchable online database. In addition, we reproduce regional and cadastral maps for our online Map Room. We conduct educational research and publish a quarterly research journal, the Galitzianer.
