Announcement by the Museum of Jewish Heritage and JewishGen

We’re excited to announce that JewishGen and the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, are cohosting the first ever Mishpachah Festival on Sunday, May 21st, 2023, from 10am-5pm. Join us as we celebrate Genealogy, Heritage, & Immigration, and enjoy a wide range of activities and events for the entire family.

Notably for our community, a number of JewishGen Research and Project Directors will be staffing a JewishGen table in the resource room, and will be giving short “JewishGen Talks” on their respective geographical/topical areas throughout the day (for details, scroll down to the bottom of the web site). There will also be plenty of opportunities to connect with other members of the JewishGen community.

July 5, 7, 12, and 14, 2022. A four-part online course through the Gesher Galicia-Gratz College partnership: “THE PATH TO MODERNITY: The Jews of Galicia.” To pre-register, please contact Lori Cohen (lcohen@gratz.edu). For the beginners and seasoned genealogists from around the world, the course explores the social and cultural transformation of Galician Jewry drawing on unique material. Gesher Galicia is a non-profit organization carrying out Jewish genealogical and historical research on Galicia, formerly a province of Austria-Hungary and today divided between southeastern Poland and western Ukraine. The research work includes the indexing of archival vital records and census books, Holocaust-period records, Josephine and Franciscan cadastral surveys, lists of Jewish taxpayers, and records of Galician medical students and doctors - all added to our searchable online database. In addition, we reproduce regional and cadastral maps for our online Map Room. We conduct educational research and publish a quarterly research journal, the Galitzianer. Gesher Galicia is also organized for the purpose of maintaining networking and online discussion groups and to promote and support Jewish heritage preservation work in the areas of the former Galicia.
